A New Herb Bed
Most of our herbs come from mediteranian type climates - hot climates with cold ‘but’ dry winters. This means that the bed should be in a sunny position (hard to find in Manchester this March) and one that is well drained.
This is why I have made a raised bed with plenty of sharp sand and gravel mixed in the soil. The bed has then been draped with landscape fabric and the herbs are planted in holes cut in this.
So far, I have planted a bay tree, chives, welsh onion (well I would) and rosemary. A large pipe has been buried underneath the landscape fabric and will be used for mint which has roots that need controlling. Yet to go in are sage, oragano, garlic chives and 2 types of parsley.
The bricks are temporary - and will be replaced with a bark mulch.
