BRIGHTON GROVE SHOW 2007

September 2nd, 2007

Trophies for the winners

The annual show for the society is held in the nearby community centre and is a good show. The quality of the entries is good and the range of exhibits is a lot larger than most other shows.

View of the tables

There is a lot more fruit entered than in the other shows that I have visited, and a larger variety of vegetables.

Another view of the tables

This is a large hall and the three tables for staging, run the length of the hall and there is very little empty space on them. The poor weather, this summer, made it’s presence felt in the shortage of entries in some classes but was made up by larger numbers in the unusual classes.

Best in show

The best in show was a plate of three red onions entered by Bob and Kate, and it made a nice change from the usual winning class.

ACKROYD AVE. SOCIETY SHOW 2007

September 2nd, 2007

table of entries

This is a small society show attended by the plotholders, friends and relatives with a small group of the local residents. The show provides a small competive section, entertainment for children and the normal refreshments and raffle.

Childrens area

The weather was not friendly to the show, as the drizzle set in early and kept most of the visitors under cover of the stalls.

Vegetable entries

The show itself was in a large gazebo tent and was staged on tables round the edges and a long table down the centre.

Childrens entry
The best in show was a basket of vegetables entered by C Basnet.

LEVENSHULME SHOW 2007

September 1st, 2007

View of hall

Levenshulme show took place on 1st September after a poor summer for growing, but the entries in the show were only a little down on the last few shows.

Flower entries

There was a good entry in the flower classes, with the best in show going to three gladiolas entered by E Wright.

Best in show

The Vegetable classes were supported by the society members and some excellent entries were included.

Selection of vegetables

The new trophies bring competed for were a change from the normal silver cups and very nice in their simplicity, the style would be appreciated by the winners as they will not need polishing before returning.

CRUMPSALL AND CHEETHAM SHOW 2007

August 27th, 2007

View showing childrens rides and the beer tent

Crumpsall and Cheetham do things differently from other shows, they use the land and facilities on site to have attractions other than just the vegetable and flower show. The grass areas at the side of the car park are used for childrens rides, stalls and a beer tent!

Barbeque and plant stall

The Societies greenhouse is used as a shop to sell plants to the public and the small hall houses a canteen for drinks and snacks while there is a barbeque outside.

Show hall

The Memorial hall houses the show and the large hall is full of tables laden with exhibits, all competing for a large number of trophies.

Trophies

The entries in both the flower and vegetable classes were all of a high standard, although some of the classes had few or no entries due, no doubt, to the poor weather this summer.

 Table full of entries

The best in show was a collection of vegetables, entered by C Weekes, and was displayed on the table and a backboard.

 Best in show

This is a popular show with the local residents supporting the society well, by turning up in large numbers to enjoy the entertainment and show.

GORTON HORTICULTURAL SHOW 2007

August 25th, 2007

 View of the flower hall

This year’s show was held on 25th and 26th of August in Collier Hall. The displays of Flowers, Vegetables and Crafts were of a high standard, but the weather had reduced the numbers of entries in the first two sections.

wining arrangement

There were a good number of flower arrangements and the ‘Best in Show’ was one of these arrangements.

 prize winner

The vegetable classes produced some good collections of three vegetables and a good leek class. The onion and shallot classses were well supported too.
